Dental Extractions
When a tooth becomes heavily decayed or has several fillings that are causing severe pain to the patient, it may be time to consider an extraction. A tooth extraction is typically the last resort when it comes to dental decay. If a tooth cannot be saved, we will remove it and we can replace it with a dental implant. Other options include using dental bridges to fill in the gap where there is a missing tooth.
Wisdom Teeth Removal in North Ogden
Younger patients are x-rayed and examined to determine if there is enough room in their mouths for wisdom teeth. The majority of patients will need to have wisdom teeth removed because they cause overcrowding, pain, and infection.
When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?
How do you know when it is time to have your wisdom teeth removed? There are some signs that show when wisdom teeth are causing problems:
- Gum problems. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause swelling and pain in the gums. Teeth that are partially erupted can cause infections, tumors, and cysts to occur in the gums and jawbone.
- Problems to other teeth. If the wisdom teeth continue to be left in the mouth, they can shift other teeth, and can cause problems for the healthy teeth. Deep pockets around the erupted teeth can have areas of plaque that lead to infections.
- Chewing issues and jaw movement. If your jaw hurts and will not open all the way, the wisdom teeth could be causing issues with proper jaw mobility.
Dr. Larson and Dr. Green will carefully follow the growth of the teeth to determine if your mouth is healthy for wisdom teeth, or if you need to have them extracted. Contact our North Ogden office for more information about teeth extractions (801)782-0866!
