Pin hole Therapy
Receding gums can lead to a wide array of health problems. When left untreated, it can escalate to the point of tooth loss. Many people chafe at the idea of grafting to treat receding gums, but here at Ben Lomond Dental, we provide an alternative- pinhole therapy.
Why Do You Need to Fix Your Receding Gums?
Receding gums are the result of gums wearing down or pulling back from the tooth. This can be caused by genetics, poor nutrition, damage from smoking, or even just as a result of old age.
Receding gums leave the root of the tooth exposed, which can result in the tooth being overly sensitive. This also leads to further weakening of the gum tissue surrounding the tooth. The space between the gum line and the tooth serves as a pocket for bacteria, which can lead to gum disease, which can ultimately result in tooth loss.
What is Pin hole Therapy?
Pin hole therapy is a technique used to help fix receding gums. It is a scalpel-free, suture-free, minimally invasive procedure. With pin hole therapy, multiple teeth can be treated simultaneously. This results in a less painful recovery and a faster procedure.
As the name suggests, the procedure starts with the creation of a small pinhole into the gum tissue near the affected tooth. A device is then inserted through that hole to stretch and peel the gums. When the gums are in place, collagen strips are inserted through the pinhole to anchor the gums to their proper place. With the help of the collagen strips, the affected area creates new tissue support.
Healthy gums are essential for healthy teeth. Gums serve to protect the teeth, acting as a seal to prevent access to harmful bacteria. A loosening of this seal can provide bacteria with an opening.
